Day 1 Recap: Off a good start

After an hectic start the pack left Marrakesh to tackle the biggest climb of the route. Day 1 was good for our Spicy riders, as they all manage to push through some steep and technical sections.

Mattia rapidly reaches the head of the race where he currently sits in good company of strong athletes with tons of experience under their belt. Last night he came at the checkpoint in second position behind the well known Christian Meier and closely followed by the French Sofiane Sehili.

Andrea and Federico are a little far back, moving at a solid pace. The two faced minor mechanics problems during the day but the morale is up. Federico is currently facing a battle with his real derailleur which is now leaving him without the easiest gear, “the infamous”.
We sure hope he will manage to make that work just fine again as the climbing is not over and the couple is strongly positioned.

The bikes are squeaking, trimming down beautiful paths of red dirt and rocks of every possible shade. In the Moroccan remote sites the views are breathtaking turn after turn. The landscapes sceneries almost make you forgive about the toughness of this competition and the amazing strain that soon will start to bite the muscles and the spirits of the riders of the field.

But there is no time to wrap the head around such thoughts, the sun is already far up in the sky for the riders who pushed through the dark night and have now another great day of grinding ahead. Good luck guys!
